Daquan George Pleads Guilty to Firearms Charges

A man from Sutherlands, Daquan George, has admitted possession of an unregistered firearm and a substantial ammunition supply. He pleaded guilty on Monday before Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, with attorney Wendel Alexander representing him.
Police, acting on a search warrant executed on 31 July, seized an unmarked .22-calibre gun with no serial number — rendering it untraceable — along with six magazines for various firearms and 140 rounds of mixed ammunition.
George has been remanded in custody. The case has now been referred to the High Court under the 2024 Firearms Amendment Act, the first use of the legislation to escalate sentencing to a higher court.
