St. Peter MP Visits Gunthropes Residents Amid Ongoing Road, Drainage Concerns

St. Peter MP Rawdon Turner toured the Gunthropes community on Thursday, meeting residents along damaged roadways as longstanding infrastructure problems continue to disrupt daily life.

Turner said he wanted “open and honest” conversations with the people affected, noting that despite some concrete paving already completed, major upgrades are still needed. Residents echoed that view, pointing to sections that remain in poor condition.

Public Works officials, including the minister and director, joined the visit and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finishing the project. They said repairs will continue in phases, starting with the worst-affected areas.

Turner said accessibility and transparency guide his approach, adding that face-to-face engagement helps him understand conditions on the ground. “I met residents right where the challenges are, in the road, because that is the only way to truly appreciate the realities they face,” he said. “There is still much more to be done, but we are moving forward with honesty, service, and determination.”

He plans to visit other St. Peter communities in the coming weeks to address similar concerns. Residents in Gunthropes welcomed the outreach and said they hope the renewed attention will lead to lasting improvements.
