Former Gender Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament, Samantha Marshall, took to social media this International Women’s Day to reflect on her personal journey and call for greater involvement from women in shaping the future of Antigua and Barbuda.
In her heartfelt message, Marshall expressed gratitude for the challenges she has faced and the lessons learned throughout her life.
She highlighted the significant opportunities that have shaped her path, both personally and professionally, including her service to her country.
Marshall, a trailblazer in political and social advocacy, emphasized that while many women at her age may contemplate their next steps, she continues to be an active force in the development of the twin-island nation.
“I urge all women to step forward and make your mark in transforming Antigua and Barbuda into a better place.
Whether you strive for excellence in your career, engage in community service, participate in political activism, or nurture the next generation as a parent—your contribution matters!” Marshall said.
The former MP also stressed the importance of women supporting one another, particularly in areas such as mentorship, health, and social justice.
She called for initiatives to empower young girls and boys, create support networks for women facing health issues, and address the critical challenges of domestic abuse, mental health issues, and sexual assault.
Marshall also touched on the importance of advocating for fair wages and promoting equality.
“We must take pride in our identities as women, whether as mothers, sisters, or daughters, and recognize our ability to create positive change,” she noted, urging people to teach future generations to always respect differing opinions and strive for excellence, regardless of gender.
Additionally, she emphasized the need to highlight and celebrate the achievements of women who inspire and support others, encouraging more recognition for those who continue to pave the way for future generations.
In her message, she shared her recent initiative to honor women who have made an impact in her life, while recognizing that countless others also deserve such acknowledgment.
Marshall’s message concluded with a call to accelerate action and embrace opportunities that uplift and empower women in every aspect of life. “Let us lift each other up as we Accelerate Action! Happy International Women’s Day 2025!” she declared.
As International Women’s Day continues to gain prominence, Marshall’s words are a powerful reminder of the ongoing efforts to achieve gender equality, empowerment, and support for all women in Antigua and Barbuda.
