The Barbuda Council has issued a cease and desist notice to a resident of Codrington, accusing him of illegally clearing land at Katel Hill without the required permission.

In a letter dated 14 January 2025 and addressed to Mr Abishur Thomas, the Council stated that the land in question is allocated for Barbudans and that no land-clearing permit had been obtained. The letter described the activity as trespassing and demanded that all operations be halted immediately.

“This therefore serves to demand that you immediately cease and desist all land clearing operations at the aforementioned site,” the letter, signed by the Council’s CEO, O Shari Cannegieter, stated.

The Council called for adherence to local regulations and advised the individual to act in accordance with the law.

Barbuda has long faced issues related to land management and safeguarding community resources. The Council’s latest move reflects its commitment to protecting lands designated for Barbudans.

Mr Thomas has not commented on the notice. It is unclear what actions the Council may take if the order is not followed.
