Antigua and Barbuda and Qatar Sign Air Services Agreement

Antigua and Barbuda and the State of Qatar on Tuesday 14th January signed an air services agreement between the two countries.

The agreement was signed in Doha, Qatar by the Honorable H. Charles “Max” Fernandez Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transport and Investment of Antigua and Barbuda and His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, Minister for Transport of the State of Qatar.

Also representing Antigua and Barbuda in Qatar were Ambassador Theon Ali, Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador designate to the State of Qatar and Ambassador Brian Challenger, Chief Technical Adviser in the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The air services agreement provides a framework for air transport between the two countries by allowing airlines designated by either country to operate air transport and related services between and beyond their respective territories while ensuring international standards of aviation safety and security.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Minister Fernandez highlighted the record achievements which Antigua and Barbuda enjoys in both air and sea tourism arrivals as well as the opportunities for investment in Antigua and Barbuda and the opportunities which the agreement presented for enhancing air transport between the two countries.

In his remarks Minister Al Thani welcomed the new agreement noting Qatar’s role as a major international air transportation hub and the opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

Both Ministers also pointed to the long standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries as exemplified in the new air services agreement.

Technical level discussions relating to cooperation in civil aviation between the two countries were also held with His Excellency Mr Mohammed Faleh Alhajri, Acting President of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority.
