PM Browne Suggests Alternative Union for Hospitality Workers Amid Dispute with ABWU
Amid a heated exchange with the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) over wages in the hotel sector, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has proposed that hospitality workers establish their own union to advocate for better salaries and benefits.
“This is a clarion call for hospitality workers to incorporate their own union to negotiate better salaries and wages,” Browne stated.
He further recommended that this new collective be supported by a credit union, supermarket, and construction company to provide members with access to financial services, affordable goods, and housing.
The Prime Minister’s suggestion underscores his dissatisfaction with the current union’s handling of negotiations and his vision for an independent organization focused exclusively on the needs of hospitality workers.
