The United Progressive Party (UPP) is set to announce its candidate for the upcoming St Peter by-election today, according to party chair D Gisele Isaac. She revealed that a strategic meeting was held on Friday to finalize plans.

The by-election, scheduled for January 14, 2025, follows the recent death of former MP Asot Michael, who served the constituency for over five decades and ran as an independent in the 2023 General Election.

Isaac noted the UPP has been preparing for this by-election well in advance, despite St Peter’s historical leanings toward the Labour Party. In the last election, ABLP’s Rawdon Turner received 899 votes, while UPP’s Tevaughn Harriette secured 601 votes.
