Prime Minister Gaston Browne paid tribute to the late Asot Michael following his official funeral, describing him as a devoted public servant and a cherished friend.
Michael, a former MP, was remembered for his philanthropy and steadfast commitment to Antigua and Barbuda.
“Asot was like a brother to me,” Browne said. “Even though there were moments of disagreement, we managed to bury the hatchet before his passing, and I am grateful for that.”
Browne highlighted Michael’s reputation for generosity and his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents. “Asot was known for his ability to connect with people on a personal level, ensuring their needs were met,” he stated.
The Prime Minister recalled Michael’s display of loyalty to the Labour Party just weeks before his death. “He proudly waved a Labour Party flag, reaffirming his commitment to the party and its ideals,” Browne said, reflecting on the moment as a symbol of Michael’s enduring dedication.
The service included a rendition of the Labour Party anthem, “The Red Flag,” sung by Michael’s family and friends. Browne described the moment as a testament to the unity and respect Michael inspired.
In closing, Browne urged citizens to draw inspiration from Michael’s life. “Asot’s legacy will remain a source of inspiration. His contributions to the development of our society and his relentless drive to uplift others will not be forgotten,” he said.
Michael’s passing leaves a significant void in Antigua and Barbuda’s political landscape, but his influence will continue to resonate.
