Senator Turner Hails Asot Michael’s Legacy at Candlelight Vigil

Senator Rawdon Turner delivered an emotional tribute to the late Hon. Asot A. Michael during a candlelight vigil at the Parham Basketball Court on Tuesday evening, describing him as an irreplaceable leader whose service to Antigua and Barbuda was unmatched.

Addressing thousands who turned out to honor Michael’s life and legacy, Turner highlighted the former MP’s unwavering dedication to the people, particularly in the constituency of St Peter.

“The Honorable Asot Michael was a friend, a mentor, a brother, a father—he was everything to the people, not only of Antigua and Barbuda but especially to St Peter,” Turner said. “No other politician will grace the halls of Parliament—no other—that cared more for the people of this country.”

Turner underscored Michael’s deep commitment to public service, adding that his legacy of care and compassion stood above partisan divides. “Whether you agreed with what he had to say or his methods, one thing you cannot say about the Honorable Asot Michael is that he didn’t care. He showed us what the meaning of service is supposed to be from our elected officials.”

The senator went on to emphasize the magnitude of Michael’s contributions. “No one in this country will be able to fill the shoes of the Honorable Asot Michael—none like him has come, and none will come.”

Expressions of gratitude were also extended to Senator Turner for his instrumental role in organizing the evening and ensuring the funeral arrangements reflected Michael’s significance. One family member remarked, “Without Mr Turner, we would not have gotten anything done the way we wanted it for Asot’s funeral. He made everything possible, and for that, we are grateful.”

The vigil, attended by residents from across Antigua and Barbuda, featured prayers, songs, and poems dedicated to the late MP’s memory. The atmosphere was solemn yet celebratory, as mourners reflected on Michael’s enduring impact.
