LETTER: Asot would not be forgotten because of the help he offered

Dear Editor,

It would be remiss of me not to extend my condolences to the family of Asot Michael.  He was such a live wire in our community and a politician who was greatly admired.

While listening to some of the comments throughout the electronic media, many persons clearly indicated that Asot would not be forgotten because of the great help they received from him.

It was evident that he was one of those politicians a constituent could call upon to get financial assistance or otherwise. As a result, his death has created a void, thus causing many  persons to miss him mainly because of his generosity & kind gestures he had always offered 

At this point I am now left to wonder if we are truly an independent nation since so many persons are still depending on handouts.

Asot would certainly be remembered for the good Samaritan that he was and for the kind heart he had. Sadly, I think many persons abused his kindness for their survival & convenience.

Similar to other politicians, Asot also used his kindness & generosity for his political gain. It is  politicians like these who have to be blame for creating a platform among the constituents & supporters to rely on hand outs from them rather than allowing them to rely on their own personal skills & resources to acquire whatever they need.

It is full time for our politicians to desist in creating a culture among the electorates to rely on hands outs from politicians to survive. On the other hand, as civilize persons we need to stop rely on politicians for our livelihood but depend more on our own personal ability to make two ends meet

Our communities need more vocational  / technical centers and institutions where the electorates can go and empower themselves and develop a skill in order to create a dollar for themselves and their families.

Let us not for the Chinese proverb which states ” Give a man a fish he has food for a day: Teach a man to fish he has food for life.
