Ministry of Technology Alerts Residents To What’s App Call hacking attempts

It has come to the attention of the Cyber Security and Communications Department within the Ministry of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), Utilities and Energy that there’s been hacking attempts via WhatsApp Groups; therefore, please via your various medium disseminate the following:  

The General Public is advised to be on the alert for a WhatsApp call, where the caller is claiming to be calling on behalf of a WhatsApp group that you are a part of.  The caller will indicate that there will be a zoom meeting of the group, and you will be sent a link which you must click on or a code which you should verify.  

You are kindly advised not to click on any link or verify any code.   Clicking on the link or verifying the code will result in your WhatsApp taken over by the hacker.

There may be other numbers from which the calls are coming from but one such number is +234 903 891 0718.

You are reminded to always contact someone to verify if the call is legitimate.

You can block and report the number on WhatsApp.
