CHAPA Showcases New House Models in ‘Open-House’ Event

POINTE XPRESS- The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHAPA) recently held an open house to unveil a new model of homes intended for large-scale construction in the coming months. The initiative, called the Bolans Lighthouse Development, is located on land near the Radio Lighthouse in Bolans.

The event primarily targeted banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies, providing them with an in-depth look at the house models to encourage financing and support partnerships.

Housing Executive Officer Mark Richards explained that CHAPA is partnering with a Florida-based company, Innova International, to explore public-private ventures in housing. Richards emphasized that this approach allows CHAPA to leverage innovations in housing while mitigating risks through shared investment.

“The private sector must account for its costs and profits, which leads to better quality and timeliness,” Richards stated, underscoring the benefits of this partnership.

To accelerate housing delivery, CHAPA is using hybrid construction technology, combining reinforced concrete with steel framing, similar to the durable Antec houses introduced years ago.

The newly designed structures are touted for their termite resistance, fire resistance, and hurricane resilience. Richards highlighted that the model’s lightweight and resilient design offers substantial savings, with costs approximately 25-30% lower than traditional masonry homes.

The open house received positive feedback from financial representatives, who showed strong interest in supporting the housing initiative. Richards noted that CHAPA has allocated around 75 plots in the area, planning to develop 60 homes with the rest sold to individuals for personalized construction projects.

In addition, CHAPA is collaborating with other developers to bring similar affordable housing to nearby locations, such as Glanvilles. Two more model houses using alternative technologies are expected soon, promising a range of housing options for the community.
