Schools Panorama Ignites Excitement for Independence Celebrations

St. John’s, Antigua – October 26, 2024 – The Schools Panorama competition is bringing a vibrant display of musical talent and school spirit to Antigua’s Independence celebrations today. Students from across the island are coming together to showcase their steelpan skills and patriotic enthusiasm, with participants from both primary and secondary schools captivating audiences with well-known Caribbean tunes.

The event opens with an enthusiastic welcome from DJ Jay, setting the stage for an unforgettable day. DJ Quest and Ibis serve as Masters of Ceremony, keeping the crowd engaged and the energy high. After a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, sponsored by ACB Caribbean, the musical showdown commences with schools delivering spirited performances that resonate with cultural pride.

In the Primary Schools’ Category, Pigotts Primary School opens with the hit tune “Good Life” by Ricardo Drue, arranged by Kerwyn James and led by captain Skylah Decastro. Sunnyside Tutorial follows with “Sand to the Beach” by Menace XL, bringing a beachside rhythm arranged by Sathyen Smith. Neville Gore Primary School keeps the energy alive with their rendition of “Don’t Stop the Party” by King Swallow, while Villa Primary School performs “Island Girl” by Burning Flames, arranged by Lonnie Joshua Mills.

Jennings Primary School brings Claudette Peters’ “Out Dey” to life, and T.N. Kirnon Primary School closes out the category with “Dear Carnival” by Simmie C, expertly arranged by Devanson David. Each performance reflects the students’ dedication and the teachers’ hard work, leaving the crowd thoroughly entertained.

The Secondary Schools’ performances begin with Princess Margaret School, delivering an exciting version of “Hurricane Ah Come” by Burning Flames, arranged by Kareem King. Othos Comprehensive School follows with the same tune, creating an exciting rivalry as both schools interpret the popular song in their own unique style.

Next, Clare Hall Secondary School presents “Hurry Up and Come” by Lazo and the Boys, arranged by Andy Horsford, adding an infectious rhythm to the program. Antigua Girls High School showcases their talent with “Go Go Go” by Menace XL, while All Saints Secondary School gives a fiery rendition of “Hurricane” by Burning Flames.

Christ the King High School adds to the momentum with another performance of “Hurricane” by Burning Flames, building on the day’s theme of resilience. Pares Secondary School brings the crowd to its feet with “Jammin’” by Burning Flames, and St. Anthony’s Secondary School performs “Soca Overload” by Asha Otto, adding a modern flair to the lineup. The category concludes with Antigua Grammar School’s rendition of “Subway Jam” by King Swallow, arranged by Aubrey “Lacu” Samuel.

Sponsored by ACB Caribbean and supported by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the event highlights the commitment to youth development and cultural preservation. Key acknowledgments are extended to the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, the Transport Board, the Ministry of Works, and Alfred Shaw for their invaluable contributions.

Jerry Aska, Devonson David, Jenna Barrow, Alvin Knight, and Dwayne Brown serve as committee members, overseeing the event and ensuring a smooth experience for all involved. This year’s theme, “From Community Collaboration to Global Gains,” resonates in each performance, celebrating Antigua and Barbuda’s 43 years of Independence.
