Eli Fuller, a businessman and environmentalist residing in Jolly Harbour, recently expressed concerns about the ongoing developments in the area, where significant projects are reshaping the landscape.

In a video message, Fuller highlighted the need for thoughtful long-term planning, warning that recent changes could limit public access to the coast and negatively impact the local community.

Fuller noted that Jolly Harbour, once public crown land, was sold decades ago for $1 with promises of development that would benefit the local people, particularly those from nearby Jennings and Bolans.

He emphasized that the original plans envisioned accessible beach and coastal areas for the community, but over time, the land has been systematically privatized, reducing public access.

Two major developments are currently underway in Jolly Harbour. One is the Nikki Beach project, which Fuller describes as well-publicized, but he points out that another, larger development, led by Rob Gillespie, is quietly progressing without much media coverage.

Fuller raised concerns about the lack of parking and access for locals, noting that previous promises of a large public parking area have been compromised, as portions of the land are now being absorbed into private resorts.

Fuller also voiced frustration over the lack of consultation with the local population and the potential long-term impact of these developments on future generations.

He stressed that while economic activity from these projects may bring short-term benefits, the exclusion of local residents from enjoying their own coastline is a growing problem.

As a resident and father, Fuller called for more community involvement in the development process, urging for a balance between economic growth and preserving the island’s unique coastal lifestyle for locals.

He plans to continue raising awareness about the issues surrounding Jolly Harbour’s development.
