Attorney General Praises Top Antiguan Law Students at Norman Manley Law School

Attorney General, Minister of Legal Affairs Public Safety and Labour Hon. Sir Steadroy CO Benjamin KGCN showers praises for Antigua and Barbuda receiving the honors of top Regional students at the Norman Manley Law School.

This year Antigua and Barbuda coped the top two Regional Student positions at the Norman Manley law School.

Kenhiah Ghem Gordon was name Top Regional Student receiving six awards while following very close in second spot is Akilah Southwell with five awards.

Minister Benjamin declared that the future looks bright for the law fraternity within Antigua and Barbuda as the nation continues to produce outstanding lawyers and drafters. Benjamin extends congratulations to the top regional students and all other Antiguans who graduated with their law degree.

The Legal Affairs Minister mentioned that Akilah Southwell, who received five awards at the Norman Manley law school will be positioned within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. 

He also stated that another young law school graduate Denisha Henry will serve as a Drafter within the Drafting department. She will work closely with Chief Parliamentary Council Denecia Thomas.

Sir Benjamin while meeting with both young lawyers encouraged them to stay focus as it is his vision to see Antiguans and Barbudans hold the top legal positions within twin island state.

Akilah Southwell thanked the Minister for his encouraging words. ‘

Southwell said “My passion for human rights and advocacy has driven my ambition to become a Prosecutor. I hope to bring about positive change and be an asset within the DPP’s office.

In the near future, however, I intend to pursue a master’s degree in public law, as I am passionate about contributing to the legal academia in Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth Caribbean at large.

Southwell has been awarded The Chairman’s prize, for the best performance in aggregation of marks law of evidence and forensic medicine, remedies procedure and practice.

The Michael Nunes Memorial Prize, most outstanding student in law of Association. The Michael March memorial Prize, during her first year, along with the Dorcas White, LLD, prize award. She also shared the Hon. Mr. Justice Kenneth Smith OJ, award during her second year for the best performance in Trial Advocacy for the Margaret Forte memorial Mooting Competition.
