$14 Million Terminal to Be Built in Barbuda as Government Expands Air Access

A new $14 million terminal building will be constructed in Barbuda, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the island’s aviation infrastructure.

“We would have invested in the runway… and we’re now going to invest another $14 million in the terminal building,” Browne said during his Pointe FM radio programme.

The Prime Minister said the recently extended runway already allows for improved airlift, and the planned terminal will further enhance the island’s capacity to accommodate commercial and private aircraft. He also projected that “within the next couple of years, we expect American Airlines to land there,” indicating ambitions for international connectivity.

“We now have a proper airport in Barbuda… and we’re very proud of the investment,” he added.

The developments are part of a wider strategy to increase access to Barbuda, attract investment, and stimulate sustainable tourism and economic opportunities for residents. Browne also noted the addition of four daily flights to the island, highlighting growing demand and interest from regional carriers.

The government views these infrastructure investments as essential to reducing Barbuda’s reliance on Antigua and creating a stronger foundation for long-term development.
