Nearly 2,900 households applied for the Department of Environment’s (DoE) ‘Just Transition’ program, which provides affordable air conditioning units and hurricane shutters. The application period closed yesterday.

Ambassador Diann Black-Layne, DoE Director, expressed her satisfaction with the response, highlighting that many applicants, including retirees, are recognizing the impact of climate change and are willing to invest in these protective measures despite financial constraints.

The program, introduced last month through the Sustainable Island Resource Framework (SIRF) Fund, aims to promote energy-efficient air conditioning and hurricane shutters in Antigua and Barbuda.
