Joshuanette Francis and her nephews noticed smoke while driving, swiftly alerting emergency services and the school’s principal.

They acted before official help, opening gates and tackling the fire using improvised methods like breaking a pipe for water.

Eyewitnesses noted the fire’s rapid spread due to dry conditions, threatening the school building.

The fire, started by the groundskeeper to dispose of brush, was left unattended.

Fire officers detained him for negligence.

Meanwhile, St John’s Fire Station handled multiple bush fires, remaining the busiest station this year with 70 out of 103 calls.
