Antigua Police Await Post-Mortem Results for Decomposed Body Found in Swetes
St John’s, Antigua – Authorities in Antigua and Barbuda are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the identity and cause of death of a decomposed body discovered in Swetes.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Acting Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers confirmed that an X-ray examination had already been conducted and that forensic testing would provide further clarity.
While speculation has grown over whether the body may belong to one of the island’s missing persons, Jeffers declined to comment on any possible connections, stating:
“I’m not going to speculate at this time on whether it might be one of the missing persons who we are searching for, but we are awaiting the outcome of the post-mortem.”
The discovery comes amid heightened public concern over a rise in missing persons cases, including the recent disappearance of nine-year-old Chantel Crump.
Authorities have launched a dedicated investigative unit to examine potential links between missing individuals, as well as to track new leads.
Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, emphasizing that even minor details could be crucial in ongoing investigations.
The police continue to appeal to the public for any information related to the case.
“We are depending on you,” Jeffers said. “We need your help to bring closure to these cases.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 462-3913 or 3914.
