*A House is Not Just Four Walls. It is Where the Heart is*
Dear St. Mary’s South
Kelvin “Shugy” Simon burst on the political scene in August 2023 and it is hard to remember any candidate red or blue, who has been more active and more visible in such a short period of time.
Simon is a masterful campaigner, lives among the people, and is always accessible. He came to the political arena as a self starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and quickly demonstrated that he is a boss when it comes to connecting with people — whether in person or online.
Now as far as the criticisms about the timing of the opening his branch office, I think it is ludicrous. Shugy was able to beat Samantha Marshall after 5 months on the campaign trail. He did not need an office to meet people, he went to the people. He went to their homes, patronized their businesses, churches, met them on the play field, on the beach on the side of the road. He went “out into the world to spread the word and bring good tidings.”
I believe that an office does have its merits and this is the perfect moment for Simon to establish a physical presence. Constituents can seek assistance and engagement and Shugy can offer classes, conduct seminars and training. But without an office, he has been extremely effective in meeting the people in the various communities in St. Mary’s South. He has demonstrated immense determination and has shown us that where there is a will there is a way.
Kelvin Simon’s approach to connecting with his constituents has been truly remarkable. He prioritizes meeting each and every one of his constituents face-to-face on the ground, going directly to their homes and making a genuine effort to understand and address their concerns. This deliberate choice speaks volumes about his commitment to being an active, engaging, and effective leader.
This in contrast to the way the typical ABLP minister conducts business. They sit in their ivory towers or drive around with their car windows rolled up. Samantha Marshall’s Constituency Office remained closed after the January 18th elections. So what is the real point of having an office if is not opened or functioning?
Kelvin has shown that he is not the kind of leader who sits idly by, waiting for people to come to him in an office. Instead, he makes things happen by actively going out into the community, making personal connections, and building relationships based on trust and understanding. This hands-on approach reflects his dedication to serving and representing the people of your constituency.
In opening this office, Kelvin Simon recognizes that it is not the physical space that defines a leader, but rather the actions, qualities, and dedication of the person behind the office. The office will serve as a central hub where constituents can access support, seek advice, and voice their concerns. It will be a place where the community can connect with Kelvin and where he can continue to actively engage with the needs and aspirations of his constituents.
I firmly believe that this step taken by Kelvin Simon showcases his genuine commitment to his community and his willingness to be accessible to every person he represents. By opening his branch office, he is only expanding the presence that he has already established. This dedicated space will not only anchor his existing presence in the community but will also allow him to interact more effectively with his constituency.
I encourage constituents to ignore the ABLP criticisms and embrace this new development. ABLP is attempting to use reverse psychology by advancing an old paradigm. In an era where remote work is embraced, Shugy is thinking ahead of the curve.
By visiting Kelvin Simon’s branch office and actively participating in his community initiatives, you help to make your community stronger and more prosperous. Together, you can continue to build a brighter future under the guidance of a dedicated and trustworthy leader.
Congratulations on the Opening of your Community Home. A home is not merely a building but requires inhabitants and a friendly atmosphere to create connections that matter to constituents. A home is not just a place, it’s a feeling. A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built of love and dreams.”
