The Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) has introduced a new addition to the High Court of Justice in Antigua and Barbuda.

Justice Tunde Ademola Bakre, a highly accomplished legal practitioner called to the bar in 1993, commenced his role as a High Court Judge on October 1, 2023.

Justice Bakre’s impressive career includes a stint as a judge at the Ogun State High Court in 2013 and a secondment to provide technical assistance to the Judiciary of the Gambia in 2018.

This appointment comes as Justice Bakre replaces Justice Colin Williams, who served as a High Court Judge in Antigua and Barbuda for slightly over two years before being reassigned to a significant role in the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Justice Williams now leads Dominica’s criminal division, addressing a pressing need for a Criminal Judge in the nation.

This transition followed directives from the Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Her Ladyship the Hon Dame Janice Pereira, in July 2023, and has effectively restored the High Court’s criminal division operations.
