Eight Members of the APUA Board Sworn in by The Governor General

Earlier today, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, presided over the Swearing-In Ceremony for the new Board of the Antigua and Barbuda Public Utilities Authority (APUA) at Government House. 

Eight of the nine appointed Commissioners took the oath of office, including Mr. Peter Benjamin, who was sworn in as Chairman of the Board. The ninth Commissioner, Sir McLean Emmanuel, is currently abroad and will be sworn in at a later date. 

The newly sworn-in Commissioners are: 

– Mr. Dwayne Edwards 

– Mr. Craig Christian 

– Mr. Luther Lee 

– Mr. Peter Benjamin (Chairman) 

– Ms. Lornette Kirby 

– Ms. Lattoia Auguiste 

– Mr. Glentis Goodwin 

– Mr. Purcell Bird 

During his remarks, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams emphasized the critical role of the APUA Board in ensuring the efficient, reliable, and sustainable provision of public utilities in Antigua and Barbuda.

He noted that the Public Utilities Act, CAP. 359, as amended, provides the legal framework for APUA’s operations and empowers the Board to oversee and guide the management, regulation, and strategic direction of essential services, including electricity, water, and telecommunications. 

The Governor General further highlighted key priorities for the Board, including: 

– Enhancing service reliability to meet growing consumer and business demands. 

– Ensuring financial sustainability while keeping utilities affordable for all citizens. 

– Advancing technological innovation to modernize infrastructure. 

– Promoting regulatory compliance and transparency in governance. 

Sir Rodney also underscored the importance of public and private sector engagement in the tariff-setting process, as mandated under Section 15 of the Act, and encouraged the Board to work towards adopting green and innovative solutions that align with the Government’s renewable energy and smart infrastructure initiatives. 

The Governor General expressed his confidence in the new Board’s ability to fulfill its mandate with diligence, wisdom, and integrity and congratulated the members on their appointments.
