The Directorate of Gender Affairs and the Caribbean Union Bank recently celebrated outstanding women in Antigua and Barbuda at the Women of Wadadli and Wa’Omoni Awards. Among the honourees at the ceremony were Shamia “Tara” Brodie and Debra Dyer, who were recognized for their years of dedicated service to the Directorate of Gender Affairs.
Shamia Brodie, who has served as Executive Secretary for nearly two decades, has played a key role in supporting the Directorate’s programmes and policies aimed at empowering women and girls. Her work has contributed significantly to advancing gender equality initiatives within the country.
Debra Dyer, a dedicated member of the Craft Unit, was also recognized for her commitment to preserving and sharing traditional weaving practices. Through her efforts, she has provided opportunities for women and girls to develop skills that foster economic independence and self-sufficiency.
As the world marks International Women’s Day, the Directorate extended its gratitude to Brodie and Dyer for their contributions, emphasizing that their dedication embodies the spirit of the theme #AccelerateAction, not just as a slogan but as a guiding principle in their work.
