NHC – The National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, has announced the transformation of a depression into Tropical Storm Philippe.
As of 500 PM AST on Saturday, September 23, 2023, the storm was positioned at 15.6°N, 39.7°W, approximately 1,045 miles (1,680 kilometers) west of the Cabo Verde Islands.
Philippe exhibits maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 km/h) with gradual strengthening expected over the coming days.
Currently moving west at 14 mph (22 km/h), it is projected to maintain this course with a slightly reduced forward speed into the following week.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center, and the minimum central pressure stands at 1005 mb (29.68 inches).
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
