Caribbean Airlines (CAL), based in Trinidad, is set to expand its passenger and cargo operations across the Caribbean region.
The expansion, which will include new aircraft, threatens the efforts of the Antigua and Barbuda government to revive LIAT 2020, a once-premier regional carrier.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Finance Minister, Colm Imbert, revealed this development during his budget presentation, aiming to return CAL’s fleet size to pre-pandemic levels.
CAL plans to lease four ATR aircraft, three Boeing 737-8s, and five Embraer E175 commercial jets.
This move comes after CAL’s recent route expansions, potentially challenging LIAT 2020’s revival.
