ABLP Government Celebrates Over 1,200 Homes And Counting Built Since 2014
The government of Antigua and Barbuda has marked a significant milestone in housing development, with over 1,200 new homes constructed since its election in 2014.
Highlighted in the Throne Speech delivered by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, this achievement reflects the efforts of the National Housing and Urban Renewal Corporation to meet the growing demand for affordable housing among families and young couples.
“My government takes note of the increase in homeownership that has taken place since 2014 when it was elected to serve,” the Governor General stated, commending the corporation’s accomplishments despite resource constraints.
He added, “While the company’s record of performance in housing cannot be assailed, it has had to divert its resources to repairing unsuitable buildings in which employees of the government work.”
This balancing act between building new homes and refurbishing government properties has been described as a “monumental task,” yielding tangible benefits for citizens.
The government credits the decision-makers for expertly managing priorities in housing and public building renovations within available financial resources.
The Throne Speech also highlighted the broader economic impact of increased homeownership, emphasizing its role in strengthening families and communities.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the housing needs of Antigua and Barbuda as part of its vision for national development.
