U.S. Tourist Dies After Becoming Unresponsive During Dive Excursion Near North Sound

POLICE INVESTIGATE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING DEATH OF U.S. VISITOR

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, June 9, 2026
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 59-year-old visitor from the United States who became unresponsive while scuba diving off the coast of North Sound on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, who last resided in North Carolina, was vacationing in Antigua with his family. He arrived in Antigua on June 5 and was scheduled to depart on June 13.
He was last seen alive around 3:15 p.m., while participating in a scuba diving excursion near Red Head and Rabbit Island. The deceased became unresponsive and was transported to the mainland near Shell Beach.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported him to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where a medical doctor pronounced dead on arrival at approximately 4:36 p.m.
Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing. An autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The Police Administration extends sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
