St. John’s Taxi Association members at their dispatch location in Heritage Quay
The St. John’s Taxi Association has secured a phased 20 percent fare increase for its members.
This welcomed adjustment offers much-needed relief to taxi operators in the area. Patrick Burnette, President of the association, disclosed that this long-sought fare increase will be introduced gradually.
Starting from October 1, a 10 percent increase will be added to fares, with the remaining 10 percent spread over the next three years.
This substantial raise will directly benefit prepaid members serving the St. John’s Cruise line vicinity.
The taxi industry, hit hard by the pandemic, saw a transformation in fare systems in 2021, adapting to passenger numbers rather than a fixed rate for a full load.
